I have a sblive with has native kernel drivers but I still use alsa instead

I find that having to typing out things like ifconfig, route and other things has really increased my typing speed (dunno about the accuracy though)

I use ogle

I'd tried mplayer even after emerging the needed libs but it still was stubborn

ogle was pretty easy to set up and has support for menus and for selecting angles/subtitles/chapters/sound

gentoo doesn't have ifup or ifdown

that can be done though through
#ifconfig [iface] {down|up}

I get my HD back today so I'll get the linux version again

the version I have has a considerably bigger memory footprint than IE but I think it's 0.5 so maybe that's why

the last version of mandrake I used was 8.2 and there was a choice of lilo or grub but lilo was the default but I don't keep up to speed on MDK releases anymore


I concur about grub, I feel more in control when I use it

perhaps RH used a different boot loader than mandrake
as I recall MDK's standard is lilo, I haven't used RH so I don't know what it uses
