Re: Debian 6.0 "Squeeze" released
Remind me again why they pulled Pidgin in favor of the useless Empathy chat client? Also, why won't it let me remove empathy, epiphany or evolution without it thinking I have to remove all of Gnome? Could you post the output for that? Is it trying to remove a huge list of packages or just a meta-pa...

Re: Debian 6.0 "Squeeze" released
The idea to make Debian (GNU/) kernel independent is an old one though (mostly for Hurd).
If you're using sid on i386 , GNU/Hurd is already available as well.
Their's even a first real Debian installer (alpha) for Hurd:

Re: Fedora 10
PS: I'd really like to install this on my USB-FLASH drive (8gig), what is the recommended way to do this? It's really a no-brainer: # yum install livecd-tools # livecd-iso-to-disk --noverify --overlay-size-mb 512 --delete-home --home-size-mb 512 --unencrypted-home /public/iso/F10-i686-Live.iso /dev...

Re: Fedora 10
By the time anyone likely reads this Fedora 10 will be available for download: http://fedoraproject.org/ It was available almost 3 days earlier from the PirateBay ;-) PS: I'd really like to install this on my USB-FLASH drive (8gig), what is the recommended way to do this? Well I have to pretty much...

Re: Sidux/Debian GNU/Linux
Of course iceweasel identifies itself as firefox, so you can't actually run them at the same time as though they were separate programs. Are you sure about this? Plain good old Debian rightfully doesn't (most Debian folks feel very strongly about this, their's still an ongoing discussion on how to ...

I had the same problem with a Debian(etch) box about a week ago. All I had to do was chrooting the root partition and run passwd. PS: You can make a grub floppy (always handy to have around, especially for lilo users) like this: mke2fs /dev/fd0 mount /dev/fd0 /media/floppy mkdir /media/floppy/boot m...

Samba is still useless crap.cdhgold wrote:thoughts?
Why would would any company need a mixed environment?
Paying twice for having compatibility problems... why?
If you don't need Microsoft, you don't need Samba.

Why would you want that? A basic debian etch kernel will boot testing, but not without any trouble (most of the prebuild modules in etch will indeed stop working in lenny) . If you don't like the kernel used in testing, you're IMHO much better of building your own (it's not that difficult). Easy sol...
