Re: Failed HD

Thanks Basher. I will try that. I also found http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec This didn't work well when I tried it on a windoze machine but on my F16 box, it has been running for almost 48 hours and it IS recovering files. The problem with it, is it will name the files some alpha-numeric num...

Re: Getting by with a little php help from a friend

After a little advice from a coworker, My code now looks like : <?PHP $dir="/var/www/html/mm5/xml/"; $defaultfile = "/var/www/html/mm5/Playlist.xml"; $curdate = date("Ymd"); $curtime = date("Gi"); $files = scandir($dir); $nofile='1'; foreach ($files as $file) { if ($file!='.' && $file!='..') { $arra...

Re: Getting by with a little php help from a friend

I still haven't been able to figure it out. What I think is happening is the php checks the first file and if it fails all the conditions, then it goes to the 'else' part of the code. I need it to check all the files, whether there are two files or six files, before breaking out to the 'else.' It se...

Getting by with a little php help from a friend

I am wondering if someone out there can help me out. I have a php file that is supposed to search a directory for files, compare the current date and time to parts in the file, and echo out the contents of that file based on the conditions. Below is my code: <?PHP $dir='/path/to/xml/'; $defaultfile ...

Re: Fedora 15

I am a (name for cat) and because there wasn't much on my laptop, I just did a fresh install off the live CD. Plus, I forgot to mention that i had the LVM encrypted. Don't ask. As far as the laptop goes, the fresh install works. Its a HP DM1-3020. It comes with a Ralink Wireless 5390 PCI card and th...

Re: Fedora 15

Although my desktop at work went pretty good, my laptop (using the same preupgrade method) does not boot. I am in the process of downloading the liveUSB iso to see if I can fix the grub, but right after the BIOS, where the grub screen comes up, it goes to a flashing cursor and never boots. I am not ...

Re: Fedora 15

well, I started the upgrade using 'Preupgrade' from F14 and let it go through over night. I came in this morning and after re-installing the Nvidia driver, things have been pretty different with Gnome3. I had a whole new desktop and all my launchers were gone. I needed gnome-tweak-tool from the repo...

Re: is SSH really bad?

I found out the reason that the IT SEC department I was just recently dealing with was concerned about the ability to do the ssh-backdoor. I guess that is a legit concern from an IT security department! :) Ironically, if we need temporary remote access to a clients device that we support, we have th...

Re: php& mysql help

Stupid me...I just realized that my preg_match wasn't even grabbing the text from the xml because of the apostrophe... I changed: preg_match("/^([-a-zA-Z0-9%,&;_\s\.]*)\(.*[A-z]:([\w]*)\)$/", $namesymb, $matches); to preg_match("/^([-a-zA-Z0-9%,&;'_\s\.]*)\(.*[A-z]:([\w]*)\)$/", $namesymb, $matches)...

php& mysql help

I have a quesiton. I have a php page that strips out names and symbols from a stock feed we have. There are some stocks like "Macy's" and "McDonald's" that have the dreaded apostrophe, or single quote. When the name of that particular stock gets passed to the "$name" varible, it won't insert into my...

Re: is SSH really bad?

I thought about that. Do you know off hand if I can just allow certain users password auth and the rest use keys? That way I could give the users that support our system the ability to login and not call me when their keys are messed up :) we are only talking about four other people right now

Re: is SSH really bad?

well, on my initial server, we have port 22 open to the world, but I have sshblack running that dynamically adjusts my iptables based on four bad user or password attempts. seems to work pretty good. My next server which is on its way up, I am using a non standard port for the SSH communications. I ...

is SSH really bad?

I wanted to post a question out there to get people's opinion: Is SSH really bad? The reason for my question is I was dealing with an IT manager/security guy of a client when I was discussing how our system operates. It uses rsync over ssh to communicate with my server to sync directories. It logs i...
