Re: eth0 won't start without NM in F16

Reinstalled, still named eth0, but I'll let that be, added a PCI NIC and that became named p1p1, which sounds OK.
Removed the Network Manager and now no one starts.

Been googling and asking about this but no answer that helps me out, is NM a necessity now?

Re: eth0 won't start without NM in F16

Just found that from F15 they changed the naming for NICs, but there is nothing else but eth0. ls /etc/sysconfig/networking/profiles/default/ hosts ifcfg-eth0 network resolv.conf ls /etc/sysconfig/networking/devices/ ifcfg-eth0 The only NIC I got after a start/restart is 'lo' I can't ifup any emX bu...

Re: Fedora 16

Fixed now. Seems I had to disable the "Intel Virtual.. something" in the BIOS so now it's working :)

Re: Backup MySQL and it's password

Oh, didn't think of that :(
I just tried to see if a "normal" user could use 'ps' and they can which I think is weird cos why does a normal user needs to do that!!!(?)
Maybe see his OWN processes yes but everything... that's weird as I think.

Backup MySQL and it's password

I've created cron jobs for this and it sure works, but now I've heard it's better to move the password in that file to another file and instead of wring the password in the cron script point to this separate file. Why is that more secure? They say, you can make that file non readable to non root use...

Re: Create a HDD/USB image from a CD-ISO image

After lots of googling I found a place that made it work. I tried using: http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/ but it told me to "be sure that CD1 is supplied" :( It does extract the initrd so all the user added drivers for the NIC, AHCI etc are OK but the "rest" of the scripts that...
