Compiz, I think, comes from the words "come" and "play", which were then snoopified into complizle. Once it was corporation-ized it lost it's fun, or the playful part of it, and became yet another double speak marketese term. Compiz: To take the fun out of everything. Note: I just looked up what com...

Long time no post.

I have weekly backups of my sites thanks to virtualmin, which are scp-'ed to a file server at my house. I don't do full server backups at this time as I really don't know how to go about that in my current situation.

Sendmail Anti-Spam Control

I have a (near) default configuration of Sendmail version 8.13.1. I do not know too much about sendmail, or email servers for that matter. But I did have some questions. I understand that I am at risk for being an open relay. But I also read that by default Sendmail disables this, and only allows th...

New server, but I am at a loss as to what to do next

Long story short, my old host took a dump on me, which made me play my cards too soon. I wasn't planning on doing this for another month, but I ended up renting a dedicated machine. My options were limited thanks to my budget. Had I the extra month, it would have been smoother, and I would have made...

I couldn't take that place seriously, and was kind of an idiot poster towards the end. I randomized my password and haven't looked back.

I think the hate shifted from microsoft to microsuck, then everyone left.

It's easier to just move on and use what you want than to spend time hatin' on companies :/

Perhaps offer a few tracks for download? Or offer the whole the whole cd as a playlist. http://musicplayer.sourceforge.net/ This is a great flash player. You could have a link for a popup window so people could listen to your music while they play online. It is open source, with a bsd license. You c...

When you say boot from an alternate source, what do you mean? Boot from a live cd? We do not have physical access to the box. I have been in contact sorta with the company doing server maintainance for us. They aren't being as open about what is happening as I would like, and am still quite unsure w...

Our server at work, rooted

First, a little background. I work for a small design firm in Carson City, Nevada. We do print and web design, basically anything marketing related. We host our clients on a server rented from Media Temple. The people I work for are not that savy when it comes to server maintainance, and they rely o...

Thanks for the article. This, plus a few other pieces I managed to dig up will surely convince my employers.
