All I did was:
#fdisk /dev/sda
#mkdosfs -vF 32 /dev/sda (is this the same as "mkfs -t vfat /dev/sda" ?)
#mkdir /mnt/usb
#mount -t vfat /dev/sda /mnt/usb

I once needed the "pci=nomsi" boot option to see the sata drives on a Debian system (also a laptop)... As you noticed, the generic kernel from disc 2 is ultra bare. It's very unlikely it will support any new system without fully rebuilding it (it doesn't even support Slack's own default ext3 FS). Wi...

Thanks.

Thanks :) I've been sick since posting that (just a flue), so that will be something for next week. I understand all basics about LVM but just find it a pain to use. Still no easy to use tool for it? Some other questions, So..., your howto will work for adding an other harddrive as well? Does LVM ha...

Extra data partition (LVM or not)

I have to wipe a windows partion at work and make an extra data partition with it. I personally don't use LVM at home since I change partitions on a monthly base and find LVM overcomplicated. At work I just use a default fedora install including LVM. Question: What's the best way to add an extra dat...

You guys have FM over there? :) Actually I know your AM channels are all slightly off from our AM channels. I bought all my stereo equipment in Germany and my digital AM tuner has a setting so it can scan the AM freqs for both. Maybe the FM channels are also spaced differently? Even so it shouldn't...

What I don't understand is why those Sandisk players don't come with an FM tuner/recorder in Europe... ?
No FM-tuner (and no FM-recording) is available in Europe
(price is the same)

Another good Groklaw article on the subject: http://www.groklaw.net/article.php?story=20061103201234813 I wish SUSE/Novell would respond to our fears. I doubt they will ever explain why they're raiping GNU/FOSS and mostly GPL... Any future code created using this marriage will be tainted and never ...

nVidia didn't work that easy for me either (...as always with Fedora) They should really fix their kernels and stop blaiming everything else. A missing <linux/config.h> in the fedora kernel (but still available in the ones from kernel.org) is what breaks the installer. FC6 also doesn't seem to like ...

I noticed the "freshrpms" apt repo was missing in action from the main site ayo.freshrpms.net site but the FreshRPMS mirrors have it. EDIT: Looks like the "freshrpms" repo is also now gone on their mirrors. I wonder if they had some sort of bad problem and had to shut down the repos to get it fixed...

I did both an upgrade and a fresh install. No real problems with a fresh install either. The FreshRPMS and Dries repos are updated as well (already at release time). While I already installed the testing nvidia-kmod mudule from Livna, I just noticed that freshrpms seems to provide them as well... (n...

Compiz? I don't even know what that is. :) Since I only use a desktop for web browsing and alike, I do like bloat like Compiz/AIXGL. I still don't understand if FC6(using Xorg 7.1) uses AIXGL in default(is it an addon or does it replace everything)...? http://www.redhat.com/magazine/024oct06/featur...

You can just dump "libflashplayer.so" in "/home/user/.mozilla/plugins/"

PS: if you have an rpm installed, first uninstall it.
