Flash 9

After a very long time, their's finally a new flash plugin for Linux. Using it for about a week, I must say that I find Flash 9 beta already less crappy than the awfull Flash 7 plugin. It seems to be less unstable, faster(loading times) and finally lets me visit all sites. The CPU usage seems a litt...

Oh well... perhaps I was just lucky. I also noticed (from your first link) that Anaconda now actually does seems to have an option for adding extra (yum-compatible) repos in FC6: Notable Features of FC6 Test 2 ... * Ability to install from additional yum repositories during anaconda installations an...

In general I haven't heard good things about apt distro upgrades, which is why I continue to download the isos when there is a new release. It'd be a lot easier if I didn't wait so long before actually installing the dvd... The main difference is that doing an apt upgrade will not run all configura...

Simple upgrade, plus update 450 packages afterwards, seemed like it took over 2 hours. Well, that's the disadvantage of using CDs. You first download and install the actual release and next you'll still have to update those same packages again. While using apt can give more problems(Not always, an ...

I suggest placing the computer behind the rear tire of your car and then putting the car in reverse and backing up slowly. Now order one that works. :) lol I'm driving a Fiat Abarth so I fear it will be harmed more than this evil CPU will ;) So I guess I should take the bios flashing risc anyway......

Swapping memory sadly didn't solve it. I did change something though, at boot-up it now only shows half the actual size(256). Could this be bios related (and is flashing it really as dangerous as all those howtos tell you..., I would be less carefull if this was one of my own systems)? Windows did i...

cant you do a dist-upgrade with yum or apt or smart? I tried that once with Yum and it went horrible. Yum is just horrible with dependencies. It installed insanely much unneeded and conflicting packages. With Apt I had about zero problems (I only had to reconfigure X). I did need packages from the ...

Thanks!!! :D I already figured out how to use the "font=" option, but didn't know about that gmplayer problem(displays everything at minimal size). Instead of just trying it from the command line, I sadly just spent about 4 hours trying(and combining) about all subtitle(and font) related options fro...

I would think you would just put this in your ~/.mplayer/config subfont-text-scale=7 and of course your MPlayer would have to be compiled with freetype support. Where did you get your copy of MPlayer? What's the full RPM name? Didn't work. I use the Dries and Freshrpms repos (and take some packages...

Well, it seems I was wrong from the beginning. It doesn't change anything from the cl either . I overlooked this since it did play (but without scaling the subtitles). What parameters are you using on the command line to get what you want? −subfont-text-scale=7 (This used to work in the past. I ne...

MPlayer subtitle size

How do you change the default subtile size in MPlayer (srt)?
I only found how to change them from the CLI (but not permanent). Is their any way to set new defaults?

Thanks.

Fedora Memcheck errors

Hi. My brother just bought a new mobo since his original was totaly trashed. After this, things just got worse (I simply can't install any OS anymore). I used Fedora's Memcheck utility and it just keeps showing errors. Does this simply means his ram is faulty? Thing is, before replacing the mobo, th...

Add this repository for mplayer!
Those are the old Marillat sources.list entries.
You now have to use:
deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org sid main
The old ones still exist but don't get updated anymore.

Are you using Sarge or Etch/Sid ? All I did with Apt was: apt-get install alsa-tools alsa-oss Next alsaconf configured ALSA for me. (with many apps like mplayer, you'll have the change the sound output to alsa in the app itself) To get oss emulation I run modprobe snd_pcm_oss manually. (add it in /e...
