I think what he's saying is Ubuntu works "too well" so people don't get as much of a chance to learn by having to make things work. :) And X11, Microsoft isn't banned on these forums because it is "easy", it is banned because ...

Well considering the task at hand which is creating a binary interface in some existing open source application, what application would be the best to start on? Keeping in mind that the goal would be to provide third-party application developers the same flexibility of a downstream patch to the appl...

Fixing Linux's Legs and getting him better.
As someone highly experienced but also highly critical (beyond Linux Hater's dreams) I've come up with a pretty neat idea. Not only can this fix a lot of downstream problems and at least put users in greater control but it could add a level of interface extension that I think is unprecedented by any...

Ubuntu destroyed my youth.
Well, Firstly I will ask a simple question, what is it that really made us all hate Microsoft? I believe most will accept my own response: That it treats all users as the same idiots and that this patronizing attitude towards the customer is unbearable. Even on its server front Microsoft treat all a...

Webmin has a really simple log viewer, and is its own HTTP server.
If you want to give it a shot just extract the tarball on www.webmin.com into /usr/local since its pretty self contained and upgrades itself in the upstream. Very simple stuff really.

Ad blcoking for Opera 10
There has to be something out there.
Don't tell me to use failfox or rusty Chrome, because Opera Link kicks a little too much butt to bother using.

Suddenly after killing and running pulseaudio again, I see a mixer with one volume control that was muted. However, the volume control on my panel appears does nothing and won't even let me open preferences. The mixer sees pulseaudios filthy presence but not the panel. Why do we put up with this? Ho...

Debian Sound Issues
I just installed debian last night and I cannot get sound to work. This is really confusing me, it used to be a hell of a lot simpler to get sound working on Linux. The modules are loaded, and alsa appears to be working because alsamixer works. This laptop being incredibly odd requires an option "Ex...
