System clock gone bonkers, ubuntu ntpd driving me bonkers

I have a laptop which has an interesting problem with its hardware. The system clock pauses at times and sometimes goes faster. This means the time can drift and awful lot and under a default configuration ntpd ends up doing nothing to correct the time. I basically want to configure the system so th...

Well, it gets more bizarre. I just managed to boot the drive under VMware. I now sense this hardware issue is related to whatever wouldn't let me install Linux in the first place - which was solved when I installed to a seperate drive to my raid config. After I did that, I actually got an error like...

Well, I finally got around to mounting the drives with VMware. Everything appears normal to me, I really don't know where to look. I'm going to start by copying the kernel from the Ubuntu install under VMware that clearly works.

It will be interesting whenever an exploit is found in the filter and hackers manage to black-out the entire Australian internet. Don't blame me, I voted Liberal! This is what you get when you vote for shallow rhetoric about "Fresh leadership." This policy of filtering has been on the labor website ...

Suddenly won't boot

Oddly, Ubuntu won't boot on my system all of the sudden. I am certain the kernel I am using used to boot.

Here is what I get: http://johntate.org/sites/default/files/Image0086.jpg

xscreensaver

I hate the gnome-screensaver that comes out of the box with Ubuntu. I have installed xscreensaver but I am not sure how to go about disabling the gnome screensaver daemon and having xscreensavers daemon start when i login.

No offense but it seems like over-engineering, I mean it's very doable. It's just I do this with pen and paper.

Well here is something interesting. This the RAID BIOS's normal screen upon boot: http://img40.imageshack.us/i/image0067t.jpg/ However if I boot Ubuntu (by pressing F12 and selecting that disk from the list of drives to boot from), after using it and rebooting to get into Windows the RAID BIOS shows...

I took your advise on the BIOS thing and found another drive I can use in IDE mode for Linux. I will get to building a kernel with PAE now. Thanks. It's good to finally be able to see what Linux runs like on this kickass computer. Also thanks for listening and not just insisting that this was a prob...
