DVD Dillema!!!

Once again I need help. This time with playing DVD's on my Mandrake Linux 9.1 computer. Right now I am sucessfully playing encrypted DVD's using Ogle, however, it is slow and choppy. Xine is so much smoother, how would I go about making xine able to read encryptyed DVD's? By the way I am aware of th...

I always save my oldest hardware for my webserver, but for smoe reason it seems to be the most stable. I actually wonder if the people at emachines would believe me if I told them that their computer has been up for 173 days. This is proof positive that software problems were the only real reason th...

Personally, I think that I would allow my subscription to lapse if they permitted such ads. damn right! this is the only reason i don't support the otherwise excellent magazine 'Linux World' in australia - Micro$oft ads on their site and in their magazine. whether people say it doesn't matter or no...

Its funny how Open Office takes 15 seconds to open on my 200 mhz machine with 64mb of RAM, I never considered that slow. Installing programs is a breeze with Apt, now all we need is a pretty graphical front end for apt rpm. Maybe one already exists, perhaps the people at Red Hat should create one. F...

The comments you made were quite amusing void main on the justlinux site. It seems that people forget that linux is not the same thing as open source. No one discusses using IIS on an apache site, no one discusses IE on a Mozilla site, and no one should discuss Windows on a linux site.

You are correct Void Main, I personally dont give a rats ass about windows while reading a linux site. How exactly will that article help the countless linux users who read the site? Well it wont. Thats why it doesnt belong there. Whens the last time you went to a windows site, and the had instructi...

RTCW: Enemy Territory Test Linux Version Released

I thought it might be of interest that a new linux game was out. Actually right now its only a beta test, but soon Return to Castle Wolfenstein:Enemy Territory will be fully released. It is a completely stand alone game that does not require RTCW to play, and it is an absolutely free download, even ...

Lack of control

Yesterday while on my Windows XP computer and logged in as the administrator, I came across several files which I wanted to remove from the computer. After attempting to delete these files I was prompted with an "Access Denied". At this point I became confused. On my linux boxes, when logged in as r...

I installed the driver on my Mandrake 9.1 box today and it seems to work fine. The simplified install seems to be a great improvement, although I cant say I ever had a problem with the install with 2 RPMS that they used to have. I think this will really benefit the slackware users, who have until no...

Mandrake 9.1 first opinions

I finally got Mandrake 9.1 installed, and I must say I like the icon set for the galaxy theme. The installer is much simplified for beginning users and is the first significant change Ive seen in the installer since I started using Mandrake at version 7.2. A few things I didnt like about the beginne...

I wouldn't call it either. I would consider what I am doing "kernel research and development or debugging". It could also be considered security related. Someone else might use it for a prank. Actually this is far from a prank, and it turns out that because of his research, he discovered a pretty b...
