I think there's no cd on that machine
There is only a floppy drive.
MoR, here you have a floppy boot image you can use to do a network install.

Re-installing wouldn't hurt if the install is really that old, you would have to pretty much dist-upgrade the whole shebang just to get it up-to-date.

Other than that it would be interesting to follow Tux's lead, I would have a hard time doing that for sure :-)

Just installed the latest available kernel in the unstable repos (2.6.23.15-slh-smp-1) and the hang time has vanished, /dev populates in 2 seconds like it used to, now I just have to figure out how to tell the kernel to not look for a resume image ...

udev is definitely a possibility, even though there have been known problems with initrd causing this kind of behaviour. Upgrading initrd didn't fix anything in my case. On top of all that I started to get kinit messages with very long udev refs. The pc hangs even longer now, as far as I can tell fr...

strange behaviour at boot

A couple of days ago my system started to boot really slowly. Actually the boot sequence seems normal except for the part where it sits at Waiting for /dev to be fully populated for about 20 seconds and then it spits out Setting parameters of disc: (none) after which it only takes 10 seconds for the...

Other than that I read a few things about having to switch the players from MTP mode to MSC mode to be able to use them under linux. ...

iTunes will indeed run under wine but the application already puts a lot of strain on a win/mac pc so I guess it could be even worse under wine ... :? But iTunes lets you add your own ripped music as well, no problem about that, you can purchase songs from their rip-off store or add any song/folder ...

Void Main wrote I heard mention of some service connected with the Amarok player. Anyone know anything about this? I used Amarok in Fedora 7 without a problem but I notice since upgrading to Fedora 8 it doesn't want to play mp3 files. I had the same problem a while ago and had to install two additi...

It's a usb connection just like my logitech mouse. But you know I'm not gonna waste any time on trying to get this to work, I didn't pay for it and I will return it tomorrow. I happen to have to work with Micro$haft on a professional basis and have several friends working over there as well, they ga...

Congratulations to Micro$haft

they finally succeeded in producing a piece of hardware that is not recognized by linux ... Got my hands on one of those brand new sidewinder gaming mice, plugged it in, nothing, rebooted to see if anything would be picked up, a whole slew of kernel messages at boot and still no mouse. Unplugged it ...

i used synaptic to lock them, but i must have missed something, because it upgraded them anyway You probably still have the linux-image meta-package installed and the default behavior with debian is upgrading the kernel as long as the version number doesn't change. If I recall correctly this isn't ...

If you use synaptic you can lock packages (package/lock version) which is what I use to keep xorg from updating all the time and having to reinstall my nvidia drivers every two days. You could lock your kernel version the very same way, but you would have to make sure the linux-image-2.6.686 metapac...

fullscreen flash vids?

Can any of you play youtube vidz fullscreen? I have seen it on windoze boxes but I can't do it on any of my machines at home. Is there maybe a config file I have to edit? I haven't found anything about it on the net, except for some forum posts saying that fullscreen functionality wasn't available f...
