Found some stuff here too http://apt4rpm.sourceforge.net/ There's a download section with the matching apt + devel packages and there's a section with repositories for both Red Hat and Mandrake. I'll also try to dig up the Texstar repository for Mandrake again, I posted it on the MES forums but can'...

Have you had any luck with apt-get for Mandrake and your Red Hat mplayer problems?

There have been very few posts on the MES forums lately indeed, but not only the last few days, it's been like that for a few weeks now, even before the downtime.

Which version of mplayer does the Red hat repository contain? If you actually wanted to install some more exotic codecs and, instead of recompiling the whole thing, you found some .src.rpm packages to rpm -Uvh mplayer, wouldn't that also work? I found several sources with .src.rpm packages for mplay...

Calum, I installed mplayer with apt-get a while ago, it came with a gui, I didn't select anything other than the mplayer package.

Also, I tried 3 different dvd's, a Joe Satriani concert, Ice Age and Monsters Inc.
They all played fine.
