There's a fair chance that your device will be /dev/sda1 or /sda2
Try fdisk /dev/sda and see if you can get a list of the partitions on the drive, if nothing shows, try /dev/sdb, ...

"p" prints the list of partitions
From there you can see what you wanna do with it.

I would format the whole drive in fat32 if you want it to be able to interact with windows, not to mention that win 98 or ME don't know NTFS I think (but I could be wrong on this - it has been really long since I used them) Plug the drive in and do a tail /var/log/messages to see what device number ...

I heard good things about Mepis recently and it's also debian-based. I tried it a while ago and it was not for me but then again, as I stated in another thread, the *buntus offer nothing that I can't do with a fresh debian install and a half hour of "customizing" so for me there's really no need for...

Hopefully most of them will do what they've been avoiding - installing Debian.
I highly doubt most of these "new ubuntu users" have even heard of debian, considering the effort the *buntus put into spreading the word about debian - NOT

I would find it interesting to put a ubuntu box next ot my debian box and actually compare both systems to see what's different, besides the sudo thing (which I don't like anyway) and desktop environments of course. I don't think there would be too many differences and that raises the next questions...

Once in a month or so I perform a full upgrade and re-install the nvidia drivers if I have to. But I have to say that things move a lot slower in "testing" than they did...

I ran into this a number of times lately and every time I got it solved by re-installing the nvidia drivers
You might wanna try that first, there's a fair chance you won't be having trouble again afterwards.

When I connect an iPod to my box I'm able to use it as regular external storage. Never tried to add music this way though because tracks are accessed through the iTunes database and you ahve actually to use gtkpod, amarok or another app that connects to the iTunes database to be able to load/delete ...

What I find hard to believe is that they actually still tell you to hit F1 or F2 when you get a keyboard error :D
It was already like that back in the early wonblows days and was already a source of laughter back then, you would thinkt they would have that fixed by now, wouldn't you?
