USB 1 and USB 2

I am about to get a laptop that has no cd/floppy drive in it. I was planning on getting an external dvd drive and external floppy but all of them are USB 2. The laptop is USB 1 I think. I am wondering if the i get an external drive will it work with usb 1? If not does anyone know where i can get and...

OK i found those src rpms but when i try to compile them with rpmbuild -bb i and getting errors. I will post those tommorow as soon as a i get back in to linux

VoidMain would you still happen to have the old srcrpms for the nvidia drivers? I would like to try with my vid card/mobo with those. I had them working in the past with those and i really want to stop bootin windows for games.

setting up java path

i installed java on my machine and it was installed into /usr/java. That is not in my path so i can only use those programs when i am in that folder. Now how do i set my path for my users to use those programs? i looked in /etc/profiles and could not dint the path= place to add it to.

i went there and i think it is the Motherboard i got. I have the Epox 8rda+ which is the same they got. I think i will just u gerneric drivers for now tell this problem is fixed. Also void Main what vid card you usin right now?

yes i switched back to RH 9 from slack. Now i installed the Nvidia drivers and changed the XF86Config file. Now when i restart X all i get is random asci characters on my screen. All i changed in the config was "nv" to "nvidia" which is what the readme says. Can any one help with this problem? Void ...

my x server works when i use the VESA drivers that come with slack. Thats what confuses me. It is only when i try the nvidia ones that it screws up

That was fast. I have a chaintech Geforce 4 MX 440. I downloaded the .run file off the nvidia website and used that to install it. I installed the drivers on the default kernel which i have not touched. All i have done with that is install the source code of it.

ok thanks for that. I got that installed just fine. Now i am having trouble with my Nvidia drivers. When ever i chage "vesa" to "nvidia" in the X86Config file it does not work. I can post my X86config if you guys would like it. But what is the command to configure it? I want to try that out.
