We may go the USB route because on a test PC (similar to one that would be out in the field, the USB Boot device went to first in the boot priority list once it was put in) So I am redoing my image in Revisor as a 'Optical Live' (for some reason USB Live doesn't allow me to select it) and will let y...

Most likely, these machines will only have CDROMs. They have 1GB of RAM and at least 30GB HDD. They all have only one hard drive but some of the older ones would be IDE and some of the newer ones would be SATA. All the machines are configed very simple with XP Pro, 1 partition. The only type of conn...

That would be awesome...for some reason, all my iso's I make with Revisor and Kickstart-conf seem to always panic the Kernel, which is causing my boss to panic! :)

well, it looks like I might need help creating a single cd iso using kickstart. I used Revisor and kickstart config to create my first attempt of a bootable cd, but I am getting a Kernel Panic: not syncing: no init found. Try passing init= option to kernel... Not to sure about this? The attempt is t...

You're a star!! Thanks...apache did not have write permissions to that file! Wanna hear something scarry? This system was already sold and is going out to 90 locations in NY... THe player and the control server are playing pretty nicely together, but I still need a CD image to wipe 90 winxp machines...

we have that for remote controling the desktop, but using CLI would be better(if possible). The xhost stuff you sent me helped alot (Thanks) but if we could do things through SSH, it would be better. VNC slows down the show when you are remoted in (small side effect and not a deal breaker) so one ex...

it is going to be pretty secure. The goal is to only allow port 22 or a custom port for SSH between the control server and the players. We would get into the control server in order to get into the players, but gaining complete control of the logged in desktop has been a challenge. On a side note fo...

more questions... with my linux signage player, I have an account, demo, autologged on to the desktop, running firefox and displaying the show. This is logged on as demo :0 when I ssh into the box as demo, I am on demo pts/0. Is there a way to send commands to the :0 session? For example, the 'firef...

Chi-town sounds fun. Your help might be requested as we get further down the project. The prototype is up and running now and we are doing benchmarks on it now. I talked to a guy that had a mandrake system built for Heathrow in London (I think?) for two years without any reboots or problems. That wa...

yes, that is pretty much exactly what I want to do. Once I build a main image, I have to make it so I can give to a field tech and he can pop it in and watch it convert from ntfs to ext3!! it pretty much has to be fool-proof so that is the key to my continued success here as I pretty much have the w...

mass producing linux

Couple of questions for the linux gurus: 1. What is a good way to create a linux pc exactly how you want it, create a ghost image of it, and mass produce CDs that can be used as auto-installers? 1a. These images might possibly need to format windoze PCs and install the image created? 2. I saw an ope...

I have my player with F10. I have thought about upgrading to 11 but I think I will wait for a little while. The big boss was just sold on the idea of the complete linux system, that I have been trying to convince them on, so now it is full balls out development!! Yeah!! :D

another tidbit that just came up, how can I get rid of the Default Keyring that keeps popping up when I access my wireless network? I have my digital signage player on a wireless but it wants the WPA key everytime and after I enter that, the nm-applet wants a password for the default keyring... shou...

Yeah, I read up on that last night, and it doesnt seem that difficult. I think I am getting way ahead of myself, but as far as the player, which is the most difficult part, its done. I still have to build a content server, a database and a website to have the clients modify their content. Still a lo...
