Problems with: ATI, LogitechMX 500, TS2, WineX/Steam/CS 1.5

Postby Phreneticus » Wed Apr 14, 2004 8:41 am

Hello,

this is my first post and I have many questions. First of all, I've been a silent reader on this board for a while and manny threads helped me to solve my Linux problems, but now I've come to a point were I can't solve them thats why I registered here (thx@ Void for the fast help with my registration Issue). I hope that I also can help the community somehow in the future.

Update

My first problem is that 3D doesn't work for my Ati card, I've installed the newest Drivers and edited the XF68Config, I've also edited the /etc/modules.conf like sugessted in another thread her in this board:
Code: Select all
options agpgart agp_try_unsupported=1

Here my XF68Config (Fedora Core1):
Code: Select all
Section "Device"
    Identifier  "Videocard0"
    Driver      "radeon"
    VendorName  "Videocard vendor"
    BoardName   "ATI Radeon 9700"
EndSection

Section "Device"
    Identifier                          "ATI Graphics Adapter"
    Driver                              "fglrx"
    Option "no_accel"                   "no"
    Option "no_dri"                     "no"
    Option "mtrr"                       "off"
    ....
    Option "KernelModuleParm"           "agplock=0"
    BusID "PCI:1:0:0"    # vendor=1002, device=4e46
    Screen 0
EndSection

Section "Screen"
    Identifier "Screen0"
    Device     "Videocard0"
    Monitor    "Monitor0"
    DefaultDepth     24
EndSection

I solved the ATI problem, an I must say that is was a very stupid one, look at the words wihich I made bold an you will see. :-) But there are still these other problems where you could help. :)

Update

I could solve the MX 500 Problem by myself.

Since I want to use my system also for gaming, i want to talk to my gaming buddys with teamspeak 2, I've installed it succesfully but when I start no one can here me and I can't here no one, even the System sounds of ts2 don't work. I unmuted my micro but this did'nt help. Gnome system sounds, mplayer and xmms work just fine. Maybe someone knows about this problem.

Steam now works but, the problem with the checkboxes is still there, also I still cannot move the windows. Half Life Installation doesn't want to start . I also, can only use my Windows Fake drive and not my CDroms for installing games, or my LinWin Partition (a fat32 partition for Windows and Linux).

It will be a miracle if I am able to help you as I don't have a single machine with an ATI card in it. I hope someone else on here can help you out. What model is your ATI card? I am sure you've been through this but just in case you haven't:

http://mirror.ati.com/support/faq/linux.html

EDIT: Never mind about the card model question as it would appear that you have a Radeon 9700 if your XF86Config comment is correct.

Can I also assume that you are using the ATI proprietary driver? Which version?

EDIT2: I found what looks to be a very nice and detailed HOWTO for the 9700 and Linux and states you should have 3D support when finished. It isn't a Fedora specific article but it looks like it should be helpful:
