yum vs. apt

Postby ZiaTioN » Fri Apr 23, 2004 11:18 am

I recently discovered an app named "yum" which appears to basically do the same thing as apt-get, I even noticed a default included script in my cron.daily directory that performs an auto update every day (basically the same thing I wrote my apt-get script for).

I guess my question is which one is better? What are the benefits of either over the other? I am currently running both update scripts (mine for apt-get and the included for yum) every morning, could this ever cause a conflict? Is there any benefit to running both? Was this app included in RH also or is this a new Fedora thing (I guess I could check my RH install my self)?

Just a few questions... LOL.... :)

Edit:
Well it appears that RH 9 does not have the yum app or the script in /etc/cron.daily.

The only thing I have against yum is it's name. For this reason alone I refuse to use it. :)
