Place to discuss Fedora and/or Red Hat

Hi Voidmain,

Last night I was reading Worker's ntpd thread and did a bit of poking around on my computer. But it was quite late (we had our monthly LUG meeting and just HAD to stop for a few...errr several... oh heck... a whole lot of beers afterwards), so by the time I got home I wasn't really able to post anything coherently. I will be posting something when I get home from work today, probably on Worker's thread about the output from the rpm -V command and some SELinux issues.

I don't claim to know much about this issue, but I am running the targeted policy and am beginning to understand a bit more about how to live with it. I still have some questions, but may also be able to provide some more insight on how to live with it.

I know it would be a lot easier to just turn it off, but I think that it's going to become more common in the future... and besides, if I started doing things the easy way, I wouldn't be me :-)

Certainly. I wouldn't want to discourage anyone from running it or learning about it, especially if they deal with sensitive information and need extreme security (C2 levels etc). It's just that when you add more layers of security it sometimes also come other penalty. Of course lack of security also has severe penalties in other areas (MS). I think the good old *NIX security model along with the good old tools like "console helper", sudo, etc are a happy medium for the general Linux using public (me).

If you're the "general Linux using public" then what are all of us who have to keep running to you as we regularly hose out Linux boxes?

Anyway, I responded to this under the ntpd thread to try and keep that discussion more or less in one place.

LOL

Membrax and I already figured that out :D
I wouldn't qualify it as entertainement though, it's more like you're driven by a passion!
You're convinced of a greater good and you want to share that with the ones who are willing to listen.
Or am I wrong?

That's roughly it, but most of all I like to learn and become better. Helping people with their issues helps me.
