f##$% SSL died

I was messing around with apache to get it to report itself as IIS on Windows for april fools day to make my geek friends ashamed of knowing me, and SSL broke doing it. I have reinstalled the original RPM. When I did that I was tired and stupid and accidentally copied my http.conf over my http.conf.rpmsave instead of the other way around.

I reconfigured it and everything, but now SSL wont start (I reincluded my ssl.conf, I also fixed the init script for the -D SSL option).

If I start with webmin it does this...

Basically, its not even listening on the port... here are my config files anyway...

However it is listening on port 80.

Of course you had backups of these config files with your MySQL dumps right? Might want to add /etc to your backup list. ;) Where did you get that ssl.conf? That doesn't look like the one that comes with Red Hat/Fedora. You also should not have to modify your /etc/init.d/httpd to get SSL support. Just having the mod_ssl rpm installed which also contains the /etc/httpd/conf.d/ssl.conf file should be enough to get SSL running and the first non-commented line in my ssl.conf file is:

I don't see that in your ssl.conf, but see it in your httpd.conf. I think if I were you I would consider reinstalling httpd and mod_ssl along with the default configuration files which just might work without any modification at all. From there you can customize a little at a time until you break something. :)

Oh im running Trustix Secure Linux now, which is Red-Hat based, hence why I posted it in this area.

Reinstalling would send it back to where it was in the first place. Trustix doesnt even come with an ssl.conf.

I might have better luck on the mailing list.

Maybe if someone can post me a Fedora Core 3 httpd.conf and ssl.conf that has better defaults I can get it working again with my server key and stuff easier.
