mounting an IPOD

I mounted my IPODs vfat partition (/dev/sda2) which holds the music files and whatnot (Linux is installed on sda3 ), but when i run gtkpod to transfer music to it, I get an error saying that it is a read-only filesystem.

I let Fedora mount it with its automounter deal, and then i umounted and did it manually, but i still get an error saying its read-only (even when trying as root).

It worked fine in other distros like gentoo, but now doesnt.

Is there some way i have to declare it as read/write?

This is how I mount my iPod at /media/ipod

mount -o users,exec,suid,umask=0 /dev/sda2 /media/ipod/

I then launch gtkpod and it works fine ...

I don't have an IPOD but I have several other flash based devices including 2 MP3 players (iRiver and Sandisk), 2 different cameras, and a pen drive. They all automount rw just fine for me in FC5 (well after I ditched that stupid "play anywhere" firmware that was on the iRiver and installed an uncrippled version). If you just type "mount" after it automounts what is the output for that device?

i do that, and it still says "Read-Only Filesystem" when i try to do something with gtkpod, or touch a file as root.

that was actually in reply to the post previous to yours, but when i went back to plug it in. The linux partition (sda3) mounts, and the vfat partition gives an error (wrong fs type, bad option, etc. the standard mount error).

and iPod Linux gives a kernel panic when trying to boot, so im just going to use Apples restore utility to put it back to the factory defaults...then install linux again of course.

what info is in your /etc/fstab for the mounted ipod?

I cant seem to get mine mounted.
