FC6 3 monitors w/ 2 video cards

Post by cdhgold » Tue Mar 06, 2007 9:05 am

I have a dual head nvidia card as my primary device it works correctly supporting my dual monitors. I also have an on-board intel i810 video device. This works also well BY ITSELF. The problem is when I try to use both devices at the same time for 3 monitors only the device set as primary in BIOS works.
Thank you in advance for any help anyone can give
Here is my xorg.conf

I seem to recall someone else having a very similar issue a couple of months back, or was that you? I wonder if this is a hardware level issue where that's just the way it is, or if it should be possible to use both the onboard and the one in the slot?

that was me i have been trying to find solution since then. I know the hardware is capable of doing it as i was running this same config under windoze XPee . i refuse to accept that FC6 can't do something windoze had no problems with.

I may have asked back then but did you try asking on the nVidia forums?

My guess is there is a simple xorg.conf setup to make this work. By simple I mean just a line or two of configuration. I don't have an onboard video card so it's hard for me to test things. I do have a dual head nVidia card though.

I have gotten no help on nvidia forums. However I have made some progress .. now have different error. I'm getting

Code: Select all

(II) I810(2): initializing int10
(EE) I810(2): Cannot read V_BIOS
(EE) I810(2): VBE initialization failed.
in the xorg.0.log googled it and found others with same error but no solution. any ideas?

UPDATE: I now have 3 monitors running in FC6 off of 2 video cards .. both same nvidia chipset .. one dual head card and one single head card .. once i gave up on the #@&%& wintel intel on-board device it worked great with latest nvidia drivers.

however i now have one small bit of wierdness i need help with on screen 0 when i try to change the desktop colors and background on 3 out of 5 of my desktops it will not work the desktop config app shows my settings but it does not display on screen will not display the wallpaper of choice or change background color ... other 2 desktops on this screen are fine and all desktops on other 2 screens work fine.

any ideas?

UPDATE: it is fixed yes using KDE ..

solution was that in the /home/"username here"/.kde/share/config/kdesktoprc file the
DrawBackgroundPerScreen_0 parameter was set to true for the screens that i was having the problem on .. set it back to false and it all works .. love this stuff ..
