First linux firewall

Postby cdhgold » Fri Jul 13, 2007 11:06 am

I'm setting up my first linux firewall using Fedora 7 as the distro unless someone has better idea. . I have never used iptables before and could use some suggestions o where to start and/or some apps that may make it easier. My config is simple just a small home lan with no services being provided to the outside yet (once it is up may setup ftp server)

thanks in advance for the help

I personally like using Shoreline firewall:

I currently use the WRT54G for my firewall which is running OpenWRT and Shoreline firewall. I used to run a dedicated PC with Shoreline but found the WRT makes a perfect firewall:

Like most (all) Linux firewalls it uses iptables under the covers but you really are abstracted from the actual iptables commands.
