KDE directtory in RedHat 9

Postby lovswr » Sat Apr 12, 2003 11:01 pm

Can someome tell what what is the main/root/install directory for RedHat 9? I just installed this program here but it does not show up in my "add applet" section on the K-taskbar. I seem to remeber that since RedHat 8, they have gone to a slightly different install path for KDE. (not that I knew what it was before eihter  )

TIA :)

I'm not quite sue that I understand your question, and I don't use KDE myself, but if you do a "locate knetmon" from a terminal it will show you where the file is installed.

hello, are you just trying to locate where the executable file is that you just installed? if it is actually called knetmon then do "which knetmon".

on my red hat 8, i think kde is installed in the normal /usr/bin path with everything else, but on my slackware 9 system, it is installed in /opt/kde/bin (where it belongs in my opinion) however it could be in a lot of places. if "which" didn't find it, i would probably use "find" next, do find --help if you're not familiar with find. Once you have found it, you can add it to your kde menu yourself by right clicking the K icon on your toolbar and selecting menu-editor.

The "rpm -qil <pkgname>" will tell you where the files are installed for a given package. There does not appear to be an RH9 binary RPM of this program so I downloaded and did an "rpmbuild --rebuild knet*src.rpm" then installed the resulting RPMs. I did a "rpm -qil knetmonapplet" and it appears to have installed the applet information in the proper directory with the other KDE applets. I log in to KDE and right click on my menu bar and click under Add Applet and there is KnetMonApplet plain as day and seems to work just fine.

Ok second stupid question. After you did rpmbuild --rebuild knet*src.rpm, where was the resulting rpm at? I did a whereis, slocate & I don;t see it.

In /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386. After running the "rpmbuild --rebuild package.src.rpm" command you should notice toward the end of the messages both whether the build was successful as well as the names of the RPMs that were created and where they are located.

That's actually the path KDE recommends.
