That's pretty much it except I would skip the "apt-get" step in your instructions. If you open your "System Settings" menu and click on "Add/Remove Applications" button, then check "Development Tools" and "Kernel Development" and it will install the kernel source (have your install CDs handy). Then you just skip the "apt-get" and/or "wget" steps.
