redhat 8 annoyances

Postby xyle_one » Fri May 02, 2003 10:38 am

I have had my redhat system up for quite some time now and it has always been a little, well, off. It is more so lately. Example(s).
When i open synaptic, it freaks out & just sorta hangs there until i kill it. ( i have waited about 2 hours for the thing to open once)
when i open system monitor, it usually crashes as well.
overall, it works fiine, but these little things are adding up. i was thinkin it was time to play with a different distro, maybe mandrake or something more fun, like slack, so i guess it doesnt really matter. i am going to wipe the drive anyways. i guess i would still ike to know what is wrong, and if there is someway to fix it. i am trying to think if i had done anything real stupid or changed something i shouldnt have, but i cant remember. any suggestions? thanks.

I don't know about "system monitor" because I don't use it but as far as the Synaptic thing hanging it sounds more like RPM is hanging underneath. This happens periodically for me as well, on both RH8 and RH9 which is why I have a tip on how to get around the problem when it pops up:
