Getting error on ./configure when installing kweather.

Postby topsoill » Tue May 06, 2003 5:18 am

Trying to install the following:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/kweather/

when i do ./configure, i get the following:

hecking whether NLS is requested... yes
checking for msgfmt... /usr/bin/msgfmt
checking for gmsgfmt... /usr/bin/msgfmt
checking for xgettext... /usr/bin/xgettext
checking for KDE... libraries /usr/lib, headers /usr/include/kde
checking for extra includes... no
checking for extra libs... no
checking for kde headers installed... configure: error: your system is not able to compile a small KDE application!
Check, if you installed the KDE header files correctly.

I checked in my RH pacage manager and all of the KDE development files are installed. What else do i need to install?

Thanks.

Using RH 9, KDE 3.1-1

That program is already installed on my system (RH9). It's part of the "kdetoys" package. It's also on the Gnome side and called "gweather". On my system (Gnome) I just right clicked on one of my panels and then "Add To Panel" and then "Accessories" and then "Weather Report".

Maybe it's not the same program, dunno...

I don't think k3b is in the freshrpms repository.

Well, i tried to install it, so i downloaded this file from the website:

K3b 0.8.1 tar.gz source

Untarred it
ran the following:

./configure
make
checkinstall
rpm -ivh /path/to/rpm/made/by/checkinstall

The above went smoothly for me and i didn't get any errors. However, when i tried to run k3b with this command: /usr/loca/kde/bin/k3b, i got the following output:

# /usr/local/kde/bin/k3b
# Mutex destroy failure: Device or resource busy

It just hangs there. Dunno what the problem would be.

Agent, have you installed your development files for KDE?
Check System settings> Add/Remove applications. Make sure the everything in the development section is checked off and it update. You'll need the RH cd's.

Also, i recomment you use xcdroast instead. Since if you only have one cd-rom with acts as a reader and writer, then k3b wont work. xcdroast lets you do that and its easy to install:

apt-get install xcdroast.

Sorry about that, I brought up Synaptic and saw that I had k3b installed and that it was at the latest available version so I assumed that it came from FreshRPMS. I did install it from an RPM though. There is an RPM for both RH8 and RH9 (among many other OSs) right on the front page of www.k3b.org and I would suggest downloading/installing the RPM:

RH8:
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/k3b/ ... m?download

RH9:
http://www.hiddensoft.com/files/rpms/rh ... 9.i386.rpm

And if you were running Debian you could have "apt-get" it.

Ok, I assume you are running RH9 correct? If so it looks like your RPM database must be screwed up. Run an "rpm --rebuilddb" and then try and install again. I had no problem upgrading my existing k3b with that RPM.

That worked out very nicely. Thanks, man. :)

Now, the thing about k3b is that it only detects my cd burner as a writer. I have only one cd burner which i want to use as a writer and a reader. Is there a way for k3b to do that?

Well, I am no expert in using k3b, in fact I don't believe I ever have actually used it personally. I just installed it at one point because it was a discussion topic previously. I can't imagine that you couldn't also use your writer as a reader. I would suggest looking over the FAQ and the other docs at www.k3b.org or maybe someone else here has more experience with it. There is also a mailing list you can subscribe to.
