odd rpm error message RH9

Postby dishawjp » Fri May 30, 2003 10:23 pm

Hi All,

I've been getting a strange (to me) error message whenever I do an "rpm --rebuilddb" after updating my RH9 install with apt-get or synaptic. Actually, it happens any time I do an rpm --rebuilddb.

[root@eunix rpms]# rpm --rebuilddb
error: db4 error(16) from dbenv->remove: Device or resource busy
[root@eunix rpms]#

Any thoughts? Everything seems to be working well, but I don't want my rpm database to become corrupt over time by letting an error live. It's not like this is a Windows computer where I'd just expect to live with this :)

TIA,

Jim

I believe we all currently get this error message:

http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/sho ... i?id=83281

It apparently is harmless and should be fixed in RPM v4.3. Just curious why you have to run the --rebuilddb? It shouldn't *normally* be necessary.

Ummmm... I just thought that it was something that had to be done after doing an "apt-get update" or an 'apt-get dist-upgrade.' Back when I was running RH 6.2 (about 6 months ago or so) that was the drill.

Never claimed to be a computer guru or anything close to one

Nope, the only time you should have to run a rebuilddb is if your RPM database is broken, which shouldn't happen. There have only been a couple of times that I have ever had to do it. There must have been problems with apt on RH62 if you had to run it every time.
