nvidia and mozilla

hi.

Strange happenings on my RH9 setup.
Installed NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4363.run and fixed the config file.

The graphic speed in incredible but....
now Mozilla acts up, and won't start. (1.2.1-26).
Starting Konqueror - Location/Open with Mozilla -
sometimes it will start once but not again.
No errors or any some such!

When I get back to the command prompt the tty echo is off.
A few other funnies that I encounter - but not sure if this is
'cause of the same problem.

Anybody know what the cause may be?

PS. All this started when I installed Wolfenstein et to show someone:oops:
had to upgrade the screen drivers etc. as it abended.
Now it starts with a blank screen and nothing else - keyboard and mouse
frozen - but can still ssh into the box - but cannot gain access to the
screen or mouse until I reboot
"chvt" with any number except 7 hangs and does nothing.
- any suggestions?
The output looks fine - (normally the sound is fine!)
but ends with the following.

I assume when this happens your Xwindows is completely frozen and you can't open or do anything X related? I had a problem with periodic X lockups with the nVidia drivers but I found out it had something to do with one of the nVidia driver options I added that looked like this:

        Option      "RenderAccel" "yes"


Turning this option to "no" fixed the problem. This option goes in the "Device" section of the XF86Config by the way. I don't know if you used this option but you might look through the nVidia README file (there is a PDF also that lists all the options). It's possible using one of those options may fix your problem. Might also check on the nVidia forums that are linked off of the nVidia driver download page. I know you are a caveman by your use of the word "abended". :)

No - it is only Mozilla that acts up. The rest of X is ok!
Tx for the pointers - but that wasn't the problem - have read
the Nvidia readme - but was non the wiser.

In desperation - reinstalled Mozilla with the "--force" options,
and it now seems to work again.

Will have to check the other problems as they happen.

Like the man says - "computers - tsk. tsk. tsk"

I've been directly involved with these self-minded "machines" since
1978 - right after leaving the Air Force..
Never wanting to or having to move "UP" - allways and still am involved
with project management and even some "heavy" development work.
Top management are for those that cannot take the strain/heat in the kitchen.
(allthough I'm a director in the company I work for - that is not where I live)
Being a founder member - I didn't have much of an option

Heh heh... Yeah, when I got into mainframe programming is where I first heard the term "abended". All the old guys used that term when their program or JCL crashed. :)
