How in the sam hell do I get the latest mozilla to install??? I have tried everything under the sun and all is I get is messages reading that Im missing this and that file. I have synaptic installed and tried to update through that to no avail. All is I want is to stop the damn pop ups when browsing any help would be greatlt appreciated

You don't have to install the latest Mozilla to block popup messages. Just go into your default installed Mozilla and click Edit->Preferences->Advanced->Scripts&Plugins then uncheck the "Open unrequested windows". Better yet, install the Prefbar so you can just turn it off by clicking a checkbox right on a menu bar. I know that doesn't answer your question about how to upgrade to the latest Mozilla that is not yet in the apt repository but I haven't found a reason to make such an upgrade to the bleeding edge.

Thanks a million Void Main that problem ticked me off so bad I started trying different distros. But I'm back to RH 9 which so far is the best one for me

Looks good, Void, but how did you install it? Looks like their linux install page is down, and clicking on the link to install the xpi throws an error "The file cannot be found"!

Can you remember what you did to install it?

I just checked and the link is good, but remember that you need to install it as root and then copy it to your users .mozilla directory.

Yeah, you have to install it as root but you shouldn't have to copy anything (at least I didn't). Basically you close all instances of mozilla then:

Code: Select all: $ su (enter root's password) # mozilla

Then go to the URL where the XPI installation file is and click install. Then close the browser and start a browser under your own ID and it should have the prefbar all set up for you (minus customization). I'll get a good URL for you when I get home if you still can't get to the one I have linked.

Thanks guys - I didn't close down the existing mozilla when I su'd the first time. I now have a fully functioning prefbar!!
