Preface: I'm a total Linux Noob!

With that out of the way. Here's my questions. I installed Redhat 9 on my gaming rig (dual booting). I installed it as a workstation. I would like to start doing my web dev stuff in Linux. I would like to be able to run MySQL and PHP so I can test my scripts locally before I upload them to my company server.

Is there an easy way to get them installed?

P.S. I'm totally addicted to Linux. At my office, I have a Tux in Black wallpaper on my M$ Winblows box!

Well let me see, you are running RH so my suggestion would be to follow the red hat tip on this site http://voidmain.is-a-geek.net/redhat/redhat_8_apt-get_must_have.html

and then if you are running the gui get the synaptic package. Then you can install the red hat specifc versions of the said software. All you have to do is sit back and wait. Or you can install them from the CD, as you would other software.

Yes, Linux Frank has a good suggestion. I usually install all of that at installation time but installing after installation time is no problem. If you haven't already updated your system with something like "up2date" or "apt-get dist-upgrade" you can just do the "add/remove software" on the menu and install from there. If you have updated your system then the add/remove software may or may not work. Of course I would use apt as Linux frank says (or Synaptic if you want a GUI). It might go something like this:

# apt-get install mysql mysql-server php-mysql

Of course you'll want/need a high speed connection if you use apt. The RH9 link for my apt tip is:

Yeehaa!

I"m so proud of my noob self. I installed apt-get and synaptic and got them running. Installed php and mysql and got the service up and running. I then downloaded and installed phpmyadmin and got it functioning just like my business server. Created users and I'm getting ready to start developing some apps.

And I've only been playing with Linux for a little under a week! Sorry, just had to brag about my meager accomplishments a little.
