xcdroast - weird problem

Post by dishawjp » Sun Sep 21, 2003 6:00 pm

Hi All,

I was going to burn a couple of CD's today. I've had no problem in the past, but today, when I would start xcdroast, everything would seem to work perfectly until about 98% then the hard drive would start going nuts and the process seemed to hang. I tried several different times with the same result (using different CD's)

If I opened a virtual terminal I got messages like :
Sep 21 18:15:25 eunix kernel: SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0.
Sep 21 18:15:26 eunix kernel: scsi : aborting command due to timeout : pid 24153, scsi0, channel 0, id 0, lun 0 Test Unit Ready 00 00 00 00 00
Sep 21 18:15:26 eunix kernel: SCSI host 0 abort (pid 24153) timed out - resetting
Sep 21 18:15:26 eunix kernel: SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0.
Sep 21 18:15:26 eunix kernel: scsi : aborting command due to timeout : pid 24153, scsi0, channel 0, id 0, lun 0 Test Unit Ready 00 00 00 00 00
The above was taken from /var/log/messages. but this stuff was scrolling down my screen continually. I tried killing the process (in this case 24153) with kill -15 and even kill -9 but got messages that the process did not exist!

A few times I was able to do a "shutdown -r" but some times the error just kept scrolling and the computer wouldn't shutdown. Oh, I was able to do a "ps -aux" locate the process for xcdroast, and could kill that.

As I said, I tried this several times thinking I had done something wrong or that there was a problem with the CD's I was trying to copy, but with the exception of different "pid" numbers, the problem was the same.

Oh, earlier in the /var/log/messages, when it was loading the CD drives, I got these messages which do seem to me to be normal:
Sep 21 17:51:34 eunix kernel: hda: ATAPI 52X CD-ROM drive, 128kB Cache, UDMA(33)
Sep 21 17:51:34 eunix kernel: Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision: 3.12
Sep 21 17:51:34 eunix kernel: SCSI subsystem driver Revision: 1.00

Sep 21 17:51:34 eunix kernel: Vendor: MSI Model: CD-RW MS-8348 Rev: 120D
Sep 21 17:51:34 eunix kernel: Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Sep 21 17:51:34 eunix kernel: parport0: PC-style at 0x378 (0x778) [PCSPP,TRISTATE,EPP]
Sep 21 17:51:34 eunix kernel: parport0: irq 7 detected
Sep 21 17:51:34 eunix kernel: Attached scsi CD-ROM sr0 at scsi0, channel 0, id 0, lun 0
Sep 21 17:51:34 eunix kernel: sr0: scsi3-mmc drive: 4x/48x writer cd/rw xa/form2 cdda tray
Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
