Printing under FC1

Here's the current config :

System 1.
OS : FC1
Mobo : Gigabyte GA-8KNXP
CPU : P4 3.0GHz
Memory : 512MB DDR400
HDD : 1x WD IDE 80GB 7200RPM + 1x IBM IDE 60GB 7200RPM
NIC : 1x Intel Gigabit 10/100/1000 on RJ45
VGA : Hercules Radeon 9700PRO 128MB
Sound : Creative SB-Live PCI

System2.
OS : FC1
Mobo : Gigabyte "nearly-all-on-board"
CPU : P4 1.8GHz
Memory : 256MB DDR266
HDD : 1x WD IDE 60GB 7200RPM
NIC : 1x Intel Gigabit 10/100/1000 on RJ45
VGA : Intel i810 on-board
Sound : Creative SB-Live PCI

BOTH systems are connected to a D-LINK Switch-Router 4-ports which shares the Internet access

I've some plans to get a Laser printer quite soon and to share it as well for tose two systems.

A few questions :
- Which Laser printer will be the most "compatible" with FC1 ? (read : which one will be the easiest setup)
- When installed what must I do to make it visible for both systems and share this printing resource ?

What about you, Void Main ?
Which Laser printer did you connect to your FC1 system ?

I currently don't have a Laser printer at home although I have used many different models of HP LaserJet at work with no problems. Most of them (if not all) had JetDirect network print servers either interally installed in the printer or external. At home I currently just have an HP DeskJet 940C attached to an external 3 port HP JetDirect print server.

Why don't you get a couple of candidates and we'll do some investigatingw on how well they should work with Linux. Here is a good resource as well:

I believe the only thing you really have to stay away from are those "winprinter" type devices.

Yeah, you're right.
Between those, will be the one :

LaserJet 4200n
or
LaserJet 4300n

Needless to say that any useful tip or nice How-To is more than welcome.

I really don't believe you will need any type of HOWTO or tip on how to set those up. I have printed to many a 4000N and 4500N printers and I suspect the 4200 and 4300 will be the same. Basically just set up the printer with an IP address and you should be able to just add a printer from your menu (or run the redhat-config-printer command). Tell it it is a JetDirect printer, give it the IP address, then select the printer model. The 4200 and 4300 are in the list along with about 6 different driver choices. If they are Postscript capable you might want to use Postscript, otherwise use one of the others. You can always go back and change the driver from the menu if you don't like the driver you select.

Also, HP is a Linux friendly company. They may even have additional documentation on their web site if you search for it but I don't believe you will need it. I know they used to have the JetAdmin software package available for Linux (you don't need it, can be useful if you have lots-o-printers).
