I believe you mean GNU, Linus Torvalds, Alan Cox and the gang rather than the Armed Forces :)

I was showing my support for the fight against terrorism as I was briefly part of the Armed Forces.
But You could consider M$ an evil empire that should be destroyed!!
so I stand corrected as I forgot those great people.

careful now, best to keep discussion of the fight against "terrorism" out of these forums i should think, although i suspect that there is no real disagreement, it is likely that there will be a considerable amount of misunderstanding goes on if we start to discuss such things. (seen it before).

My apoligies to all members of this board. I have, again, strived away from the purpose of this great site. I will keep my topics related to this board.

To answer the armed forces question about Linux. I don't know about the British forces but in the American armed forces (USAF) is where I first implemented Linux in a production environment just about 10 years ago. I was a programmer turned Sr administrator on IBM RS/6000 servers running AIX. I installed Linux on all the developer PCs which was much cheaper than purchasing IBM Xterminals or diskless workstations. And also much cheaper than running a commercial Xserver under Windows (Cygwin and a Windows XFree port was not available at the time). I did have them set up to dual boot with Windows 3.0 (Win95 was not out yet). I had set up around 30 dual boot machines at the time.

Nope. The bar is called SoyBar and you can get it here. The wallpaper can be also be found here. Note that all of the icons on the bar are functional and each one of the opens the respective Linux app. For example, the Mail icon which opens, um, Mail in OS X opens Evolution in Linux and so forth. If you don't know where to get Karamba from, I can point you to some addresses.

BTW, I forgot to mention that the original KDE bar is hidden in this one as well as all the desktop icons.

well i got karamba from kde-look.org (which seems to be its first point of contact with the world)

MoR tipped me off about it a couple of days ago and it looks like real early days at the moment. What i will probably do is attempt to run a mac style doc in XFce possibly testing to see if it functions well enough to consider getting rid of the dfm desktop icons and the xfce toolbar itself. It might be worth simply running twm, dfm and karamba as a full desktop environment (probably with rox filer as the file manager). sorry i am thinking out loud. i will shut up now until i too have an impressive looking Mac-alike screenshot! :D
