a nicely done article, being the nitpicker that i am though...
open PCs replaced proprietary microcomputers twenty years ago.

actually proprietary microcomputers didn't have much of a market until IBM created one, and since IBM's PC was open architecture right from the start, one can't really say it replaced anything. IBM did try for a few years to keep PCs slow and inefficient to try and make sure they didn't cut into IBM's minicomputer market, but that didn't last long as they fumbled the ball to Compaq quite early in the game.

anyway, i digress, good article, the future's bright.

Yes everything was well documented in early peices, like dos partitons, try and find some offical documentation on that. Everything was wonderful!

good read and I hope that they will provide the download link for the 4.2 kernel they mention

Note that despite the different version numbers, all are really based on Linux version 4.2, and are also available on 32-bit x86 processors.


pretty please? can I get the 4.2 kernel? I've still got 2.4 and I want to see how far GNU/linux has come

but that is nitpicking on a typo.
