What I would do at this stage is a complete reinstall of kde.
Uninstall everything, purging all of the config files and reinstall kde.
First you might try to just reinstall kdelibs ...

But I actually use kde so that makes sense, why do you bother installing kde at all if you don't plan to use it?
If you install a kde app Yast will surely resolve the dependencies and install all of the necessary libs and stuff ...

I guess that short of a total reinstall, that's about the only thing I have left to try. Or at least kdelibs and any config files I can find.
why do you bother installing kde at all if you don't plan to use it?

I'm not setting this computer up for myself. It's going to be for a guy I work with and his kids. They may well want to use KDE. He's sick of MSWindows and all the viruses and other malware and wants to try Linux.
