Can you use Synaptic to install Kernal source - UBUNTU

Postby dickinsd » Sat Feb 05, 2005 7:55 am

Just a question.

So far I have no need to do this, but can you use Synaptic to install kernel source?

or do you need to use apt?

something like

Code: Select all
apt-get install kernel-source<version>

??

Just for my info

Yes you can.
In theiry you can install everythnig from within synaptic, once I even did a KDE upgrade this way even though I wouldn't recommend it and I do it from a text login myself now.

What's more, installing the kernel sources in no way interferes with the running of your system so I really don't see why you couldn't use synaptic to install them ...

I've used synaptic to install kernels and kernel source in Fedora3, so I don't see why it wouldn't work in any other distro.
