Net install of debian

So, i'm trying to install debian. I downloaded the net install cd, went through the install. I'm now trying to use dselect or apt to install packages. But most packages(such as netselect) say they're not in the source (after doing a succesful apt-get update), and i'm using the main mirrors for the install. (ftp.us.debian.org/debian)
I'm using the current testing branch of amd64. Any help here, i really have no idea what i'm doing apparently..

The amd64 port does not appear to be an official Debian port as of now so I'm not sure if that main repo would have the amd64 stuff. Here's the list of mirrors for debian-amd64:

I just saw it today, added some of the sources. Got KDE installed and such, i think i also need to add some of the regular sources (which contain amd64 packages in the testing branch only). The trick was getting the security.debian.org source, it was the one that had the dependencies that were critical to get just about anything installed.

When i downloaded the amd64 version, i dont recall reading anything about it being an unofficial port with sources from another website, and the default sources that are included weren't from the amd64 site.

I was wondering if you could clarify what this means (from the amd64 port site):

Minimalistic AMD64 runtime support for i386

The official i386 distribution actually includes minimalistic AMD64 support, consisting of a 64bit kernel, gcc-3.4 able to create 64bit binaries and the amd64-libs package to run third-party amd64 binaries with native shared libraries.

Does this mean that thier normal distro would utilize that extra 32 bits, but just not as well as their amd64 port of it and i would be able to install x86_64 apps, or am i getting this completely wrong?

Their package support for amd64 port seems be really lacking (cant find kernel sources for 2.6.15, ndiswrapper-modules, etc)
