Debian 3.1-r2 sound

Hey there,

I have been using debian 3.1-r2 with gnome for a while now on my laptop, and I can't seem to get sound to work with alsa. I need to be able to change the volume control gnome uses and set the device permissions automatically, etc, any ideas?

I had a similar problem with Ubuntu...it turned out the sound was on, but muted, it took me forever to find that though.

You mean like in the 'gstreamer-properties' command?

It appears to be working fine with alsa all the sudden and no permission issues.
