Specify Debian Boot Parameter kern.hz

Hey all,

I am trying to figure out a way to optimize Debian in a VMWare environment so that it is not sucking up a load of the host system's memory. While using FreeBSD guests, there was a little trick that you could use in /boot/loader.conf to set "kern.hz=100." The VM went from using 15% of the memory to below 5% after the modification. I was wondering if there was an equivalent on Linux that would allow me to tinker with the settings in an attempt to free up some host memory. In searching, I haven't found much, as BSD and SysV have two entirely different boot processes.

I am running VMWare Fusion 4.1.1 on an iMac host (10.7) Guest System is running Debian Squeeze with an out-of-the-box install.
