Sound not working :: Creative SB 128 PCI

Postby Refalm » Wed Aug 06, 2003 2:24 pm

Mandrake Linux 9.1 works now. And fast too, I installed the latest nVidia driver with it.

Too bad though, that the sound isn't working. I've tried doing what I could search on Google, but nothing worked. I have a Creative Soundblaster 128 PCI. Please help me, I'm running out of ideas :(

[EDIT] My soundcard works great on Knoppix. It uses the es1370 driver. Mandrake does the same, but still won't work.[/EDIT]

As a last resort, I did something that was written on the SuSE website. If you have a es1370, es1371 or es1373 card, do the following (as a root of course... I did it in a terminal, editing with Vi IMproved):

Edit the file /etc/modules.conf. Change the lines

alias char-major-14 off
alias sound off
alias midi off

to

# alias char-major-14 off
# alias sound off
# alias midi off

NOTE: If you have an es1371 or es1373 card, replace es1370 by that.

# alias char-major-14 es1370

is changed to:

alias char-major-14 es1370

VERY IMPORTANT --> Never install OSS from 4Front technologies! It will cost money, and it's not open source!
