ok it's NOT apt-get for rpm, but it seems to be as good as, except that all the commands are different from proper apt (typical mandrake).
well, the laptop (claudia) now has mandrake 9.1 on and the desktop (harvey) upstairs (still waiting for a network card from Dell) has still got RH9.0 on. i haven't used mandrake in a while, but it seemed intolerable that no apt was available for it. so i went and found these two easy to use pages:
http://urpmi.org/easyurpmi/index.php
http://www.mandrakeuser.org/docs/basics/brpm3.html
follow the instructions in the first one, then read the second one. and for a GUI (not that similar to synaptic, but good enough) use rpmdrake. This may well be old news to some people, but the thing about adding repositories was totally new to me and seems to be working fine so far (am in the middle of my first package updates, so we shall see)
Just wanted to post and say so in case other people want this on mandrake too. mandrake seems to be better for this laptop since i can install all the packages i need (and GNOME and KDE too) in less than half the size of red hat or fedora for some reason.
