ok, as usual i know what i want to do, but feel i am missing a crucial piece of understanding of how to do it.

now, i tried to follow what the review said, but i am not really too new at this. the cups daemon already loads at boot time, and then hey presto, i find out about http://localhost:631/ for the first time ever! now i tried to use it, but am faced with screens that confuse me a little. In the first screen i am prompted for name, location and description. i am thinking that name and description can be any string, but that location should be a device file? or should it be a URL of some sort? any idea what it should be for a USB printer? on the next screen i can select "Device", and luckily, the SAMSUNG ML-1210 USB printer is detected (somehow) and is in the list. I select it. in the next screen, i am stumped. see jpeg above, i've now to select the "Make" of the printer, but SAMSUNG does not come up. I have downloaded the right ppd file for the printer, and i am often seeing on the internet that this printer uses the gdi driver (presumably a kernel module) but how do i fit all this together and Make It Work TM?
for the record i am using slack 9.1 (the review appears to be on 9.0 i think) which means cups 1.1.21
