How Slack? I can't use my DVD

Postby Buzza24 » Thu Mar 18, 2004 2:31 pm

Hey guys,

this is my third day using Slack and it's growing on me quite rapidly.
One problem though: I can't use my dvd rom.
Slack was able to detect the burner but it left my dvd high and dry.
Please help.

You need to elaborate; how are you trying to use it and what problems is it giving you?

well the problem is that i can't use it.

In redhat, it detected both drives and set them up as /dev/cdrom & /dev/cdrom1. In slack all i have is /mnt/cdrom -> /dev/cdrom and that's it. /mnt/cdrom is the drive i used to install it if that helps in anyway.

If you want some details they're both LG drives. LG DVD-ROM 16x, and LG CD-RW 52x24x52x

I just want to be able to mount the drive and use it (data, audio, DVD).
If u need anything else just ask.

You just have to mount it yourself. Create a directory called "/mnt/dvd," or something, and mount it like you'd usually mount a CD.

mount -t iso9660 /dev/hdd /mnt/dvd

You'd also want to add the following to /etc/fstab:

/dev/hdd /mnt/dvd iso9660 noauto,owner,ro 0 0

Also,
ln -s /dev/hdd /dev/dvd

This should stop certain media apps from complaining that they can't find a drive.
