suggestions for linux web site creation software

I have been using Dreamweaver to create and maintain
http://www.addicted2tech.com (hosted on http://www.mosso.com -- Mosso rocks)

I'm now looking to do site re-design and would like to switch to linux
software for this. My main requirement as you can see from looking at
site is the ease of creating the photo pages. This is very easy in
Dreamweaver I simply give it my source folder and destination folders
and it creates the thumbnails, thumbnail pages, navigation link etc..

NVU was suggested but its website seem to indicate it has not been
updated in a while

My linux distro of choice is Fedora 7

NVU is the most like dreamweaver. You might try bluefish, but it's not strong on the WYSIWYG department. However, I do like bluefish, it's very versatile.

Have you considered using Gallery for your photos? I have several installations of Gallery and really like it. Then you can use the proper HTML creator (VIM) for the rest of your site. :) I've actually not used the new 2.x (G2) version. I am still using 1.x.x (G1) on everything.

I'm trying out gallery 2 and it works well but look like crap ..void how did you get yours to look the way it does i like your colors and layout to see the default of gallery2 go to http://www.addicted2tech.com/gallery2

I am using G1 because I am used to the layout and think I like it better than G2. I'm not sure how you change the layout in G2 but I believe there are some templates and I would bet you can customize one of your own. In G1 you just log in as admin and there is a configuration wizard on the admin page to change the colors, etc.

I always loved quanta as a web IDE (over bluefish, screem, and NVU).

i find quanta to be similar to bluefish, but i prefer bluefish's usability. For some reason quanta has a history of exiting unexpectedly for me.

I really think that for a lot of web design bluefish is the most you'll need (or quanta depending on preference). I think to a certain extent that if you can't do something with bluefish that you can do with dreamweaver, then you need to figure out more about writing web pages!

the quanta/bluefish choice may well depend on which sets of libraries etc you have (or want to install) of course since bluefish is GTK+ and quanta is QT.
