Im having trouble with the sound on a couple of games (rtcw and enemy territory). The errors tell me this.

/dev/dsp: Device or resource busy
Could not open /dev/dsp
What command would I type to find out which applications are using /dev/dsp ? I had a problem with the arts sound daemon causing trouble before, however there was no sound. In this case only these two games have no sound. Just in case I went ahead and killed artsd, but there is still no sound.

Or "/sbin/fuser -u /dev/dsp" will list the PID and user of each process that has a hold on it. It will also allow you to automatically kill those processes with "/sbin/fuser -k /dev/dsp". lsof will give you more info though.

After weeks of being confused I removed the sound module and reinserted it, and found that sound in both games worked.
