Dyndns

Postby Master of Reality » Fri Nov 18, 2005 6:55 pm

Is there a way i could make a daemon or something check every 15 minutes if my IP has changed, and if it has then run a script (which will update dyndns for me).

My host was block because apparently the script i downloaded from their website shouldnt be implemented the way it is. It told me to put it in a cron job. Where it updates dyndns every 10 minutes. Well, dyndns considers it abuse if your IP doesnt change when it is updated.

ps... its not my IP, its the IP on my router that i need to check.

I use ddclient. It works perfectly. For me it was as simple as "apt-get install ddclient" and editing the config (/etc/ddclient/ddclient.conf). It runs as a service and checks the ip address every 5 minutes and doesn't update dyndns unless the address has changed. It checks the ip via checkip.dyndns.org.

bah! bloody thing... you know what.... I switched from ddclient and started using one of the other ones on their page.
.....But i left ddclient running. Nice mentioning that. Its probably sending my IP on the cron intervals and whenever ddclient sends it.
