No DNS, why didn't they say that then :(

Postby Basher52 » Tue Feb 03, 2009 8:38 am

The company that my sis bought the domain name from just realized that they made an error by just adding my IP address to their DNS.
I have to order the DNS server extra to get this working,
so now I'm wondering, how fast and how complicated is it to set my own DNS sever up for these xenonlyse.se and tperacing.se? (and later another one)
Since we already got one site on the web this needs to be done fast before they cut us out of their DNS service.

I use GoDaddy for most of my domains now and they include DNS hosting in that ($7/year/domain I believe is what I am paying). Running a DNS server is not all that difficult if you have to but it is one more thing that you have to keep working and manage. I have a really old tip on setting up DHCP and dynamic DNS that might give you some hints:

I haven't followed this through but it looks pretty good and much more in depth (better) than what I have:

Well then it looks like we're gonna have to get that service, cos I can't say I can manage that service without any hick ups as I never did it before :P

It's about $15 start fee and about 3$ monthly fee after that, so it's manageable.

Or you could get you a couple of .com domains from GoDaddy for $7/year and that includes DNS.
