Installation over a network

hi all,

The other day, I got to c this cool way of installing stuff over a network. There wasnt any time left for me to ask questions. So heres the scoop.

These 2 computers were part of a network. One had a CD-ROM drive while the other did not. Now, a software CD was popped into the system which had the drive. The guy on the other comp somehow accesed the CD-ROM and started to install the stuff directly from the CD via the console....(no X)

How is it possible to access another comp on the network via the Console? Btw, it should not be via SAMBA since there are no Windows PC's.

It could have been NFS, or scp (part of SSH) or maybe just FTP.

Yeah, NFS is the way I would have done it although there is no reason you couldn't have used one of many other network file systems including Samba (you don't need to have a Windows machine to use Samba, but I would use NFS in this case).
