red hat is sooo sweet.... why did I wait so long???
Hi All,
I just finished all my "apt-get update" and Red Hat "up2date" stuff while playing a good old Boston CD and never loading a GUI. And I did some web surfing with Lynx while it was all happening.
Jeeze, this Linux is just sooooo nice. Ok, so I'm a bit tipsy. Alright, I'm downright hammered. I had to meet with the Board of Trustees today and I hate that oops. A lot. And the IT director was trying to make nice-nice with me at the reception afterwards. He told me how he wasn't really anti-Open Source, it's just that M$ was so much less expensive. And more stable. And better supported. And it was all I could do to keep from puking on his shoes! At least he's agreed to not mess with my server and workstations and downgrade them to WinXP for a while yet. Oh, and while he offered me a "free" copy of M$OfficeXP for home, he made it plain that I had to limit my use of it to work related projects. I thanked him a lot but declined telling him that Open Office worked just fine for me and there were no restrictions. We discussed why I refused to access my "work" me-mail from home. I told him about how I had my firewall rules set to disallow unsolicited access to my computer and that I was always disconnected from the College's servers after a few minutes, so it was impractical for me to check my e-mail from home. Of course he explained to me that to ensure the safety of his broken, worthless, useless, mostly-down, crappy win2K network (not exactly his words) that he had to authenticate all connections. Sweet, I suppose if he could keep the damned thing up for more than a week or two at a time.
God I hate Windroids, especially when they manage to become sys admins.
Sorry for the rant. Void please don't boot me. Just a really bad day followed with a lot of brews.
Jim
