Hi All,

I just finished all my "apt-get update" and Red Hat "up2date" stuff while playing a good old Boston CD and never loading a GUI. And I did some web surfing with Lynx while it was all happening.

Jeeze, this Linux is just sooooo nice. Ok, so I'm a bit tipsy. Alright, I'm downright hammered. I had to meet with the Board of Trustees today and I hate that oops. A lot. And the IT director was trying to make nice-nice with me at the reception afterwards. He told me how he wasn't really anti-Open Source, it's just that M$ was so much less expensive. And more stable. And better supported. And it was all I could do to keep from puking on his shoes! At least he's agreed to not mess with my server and workstations and downgrade them to WinXP for a while yet. Oh, and while he offered me a "free" copy of M$OfficeXP for home, he made it plain that I had to limit my use of it to work related projects. I thanked him a lot but declined telling him that Open Office worked just fine for me and there were no restrictions. We discussed why I refused to access my "work" me-mail from home. I told him about how I had my firewall rules set to disallow unsolicited access to my computer and that I was always disconnected from the College's servers after a few minutes, so it was impractical for me to check my e-mail from home. Of course he explained to me that to ensure the safety of his broken, worthless, useless, mostly-down, crappy win2K network (not exactly his words) that he had to authenticate all connections. Sweet, I suppose if he could keep the damned thing up for more than a week or two at a time.

God I hate Windroids, especially when they manage to become sys admins.

Sorry for the rant. Void please don't boot me. Just a really bad day followed with a lot of brews.

Jim

You think you had a bad day? I guarantee mine was worse. First of all. I have a college degree in computer science, yet I can't find an IT job that pays enough to make rent. So Im forced to work at wal-mart just to make ends meet. I unload trucks, yeah what a great job for a computer geek. Not only this, but I dont even get respect there.

But my job isnt the only thing that is sad, I am so lonely it hurts. No love, and it is so near Valentines day. I went to see my mother, and she called me a loser. My dog died, and I drive a real piece of oops. I had to walk 2 miles last week after my thermostat went out.

Well at least I got over my gambling problem. The only thing I enjoy in my life is linux and my website. Oh well, I might have to sell my computer soon to pay bills.

I know plenty of americans who have come to aussieland to get some IT work. Dont give up, theres always light at the end of the tunnel.

And good luck!

About the M$ loving admin, ask him stupid impossible questions like "So in Windows how do i change the IP fingerprint" and stuff.

I have hard time respeacting people that go for programming o networking and either dont know what the GNU is or dont have the slightest idea on how to use it.

I find them simply downright stupid even if they are smart or smarter than me. Its their job and they should at least know about it.

Talking about a bad day,,,,,,you got the mobos that with all good intentions start yaping about what I should do here in the USA and they havent even gone out of Greece for more than a month. Am fscking broke, hard to find people in real life that think beyond their prick or tits and dont wanna do something creative.............ah its a fscking mess.

fsck em shoot em and ask questions later.

I find it annoying that people will go to school and study to be programmers, and get out of school and be so focused on MS products, like .NET and C# that they dont even realize that there are other platforms out there other than MS. My personal experience studying to be a programmer, Ive met many other programming students who had never heard of linux, and never used a mac. They just sat there and assumed that Visual Studio was the entire world. Ive also met the occasional student who liked linux even more than me(hard to believe as it sounds), they simply put refused to use MS ever, and I believe that put them at a sort of disadvantage as well. Hate it as I do, learning to work with Microsoft computers and software is a fact of life for an IT worker. Yet and still I can't get a job. What good is a college degree In Computer Information Systems if I can't get a job? In my last post I said I was having a bad day, what I meant was Im having a bad LIFETIME!!!!!

By the way Void Main, I just noticed that whenever anyone tries to say MICR0SOFT, you replace the S with a $.

Hey, it's been almost a year and a half for me. I got a nice severance package from my last job that lasted me about a year but I've been scraping the last 6 months. The last job I interviewed for had over 250 resumes just from a single days advertisement in the paper. The last few jobs they wouldn't take me because I am overqualified. wth?

Actually it's a phpBB filter. Thanks, you had to make me add some more. :)
