Actually you should be able to just go into your profile and change your handle. You don't have to create a new account. If you can't change it in your profile let me know and I'll change it for you.

Just for the record....I have to say though....

I know Calums a Scot, but I happen to live in England as well, with an English wife. My night job is as a Pub Manager. I hear CeNsOrEd roughly about every other word, combined with a few other colorful adjectives. However that is in the bar and is mostly tradesmen. In the lounge it's common, but less. Most people who come in there seem to be chavs (English version of street thugs, absolutely worthless people really) or professionals.

I do understand the need for you to maintain your forum as PC as possible though.

Apparently the change didn't work....I tried to change it to JoeDude...

yes, american censored, although people swear the whole time all over europe and lots of other countries, right thinking folk still think that it's wrong. by the way i don't live in england anymore, so you're on your own, perhaps you should come and live in scotland as well, they now have a law against smoking in pubs! if i frequented pubs, i would be a lot happier (and healthier) and it probably keeps the schemies (scots chavs, but less pretentious) away too.

void main i applaud your efforts to keep this forum politically correct, well done. as i say, i wouldn't bother myself, but the fact that you have consciously decided to do so, and you have your reasons is brilliant.

It's surely much easier on a low traffic site like this. :)

you were clearly logged in when you posted that... wth? how could you not know your login name and be logged in to ask what it is?

(by the way is wth a swear word? i might have meant "why try fleas" or "wasps tread frighteningly" or "what terence fried", i only ask because it obviously isn't a swear word and yet it falls under the category of "translated in my brain" that you mentioned earlier. i could use wit (what in tarnation) wth (what the heck) or wtcjj (what the criminy jumping jehosephat) but none of those is as universally recognised)

edit: brilliant! wth actually gets converted by the swear filter to wth! that is incredibly cool, void main, you beat me to it! now my question looks really dumb! :-D

Heh heh, yeah that one bothers me so I set it up in the filter a long time ago. My brain sees the words fully written out when I see those three letters. It amazes me that some sites that are "supposed" to be G rated (good for grammar school) let that one get by.

Regarding JoeDude being signed in when he asked how to sign in I have to assume that his browser was already open and logged in or he has it set to autologin based on his cookie.

dangerous! am i the only one who sets all my browsers to throw away cookies upon exit every time? i consider this a basic requirement and am still astonished that firefox doesn't have this setting as the default (in fact no browser does to my knowledge, and i consider it a hideous omission in epiphany that you don't even get this option!)

void, i don't want to get anybody into trouble (least of all myself) and of course it is important to emphasise that i personally don't find swearing offensive, however i might point out that the newest member of these forums has the word "CeNsOrEd" in his name. As already discussed, this is one of the most offensive swear words in some parts of the world, and having it on the front page of the forums is possibly at odds with your child friendly policy, and the form it's in is definitely meant to evade your swear filters, in a way that contravenes your forum rules. Just thought i would mention it, especially since registration now requires human confirmation from yourself.

That name was registered by a bot. Although I have nearly thwarted bots completely one still gets registered once or twice a week. Now, I have modified the code so that they can't actually post any spam in their profile or on the forums but if they use a direct URL they can still register their name. Now, I also have a cron job set to automatically delete users every day that have no posts and haven't been activated by me so this ID will disappear within 24 hours. Actually since you brought it up I will delete it now manually. I guess I could increase the frequency of the cron job to remove these types of users. Hourly would probably be sufficient.

i see, well, i wasn't really trying to say your process needs tightened, I didn't realise that's how it was set up, i thought that it literally wouldn't set up a new user unless you had verified it manually, which would mean that the new user wouldn't show up on the front page unless already verified. That'd be more sensible, in my opinion, does phpBB not support this?

again, i'm not actually suggesting you change your whole setup just because i moaned, but on the other hand, thanks for taking my input seriously, sometimes i am painfully aware that i am too pedantic for my own good!

No, I know that you aren't suggesting anything. I wish phpBB had that functionality. I had to hack it quite a bit to get it where I have it. I would like to see an administrator only accessible area where users can be added manually by the administrator but that doesn't exist. I just don't have the time to mess with doing it myself.
